Limited Equipment Equals Unlimited Gains?

Don't pity yourself if you don't have access to the best equipment or simply don't have access to lots of equipment.


I sometimes intentionally limit my equipment options because:


1. It forces me to be creative with exercise selections

2. It's convenient and time efficient 

3. It takes away possible decision fatigue

4. It allows me to get the most out of the equipment I use and the exercises I do.


Take – for example – a couple of kettlebells and a resistance band.


This doesn't seem like enough to replace an entire gym and one might think you'd struggle to get a great upper body session done.


But, with the kettlebell you can easily train the back and shoulders many ways – but for simplicity's sake – let's say you decide to do single arm rows, single arm floor or bench press, and single arm military presses.


3 great exercises.


With the resistance band you can do challenging pushup variations for the chest, shoulders, and triceps.


Also with the resistance band you can do all sorts of bicep and tricep isolation exercises. You can even attach the resistance band to the kettlebell to create even more challenging exercise variations for pulling, pushups, curling, and tricep extending.


In this video I share a fantastic tricep isolation exercise that anyone can do with a moderate to heavy kettlebell and a moderate sized resistance band.


Loop the band around the kettlebell horn, grab the opposite end of the band in one hand, step away from the anchor point (the kettlebell) and do banded overhead extensions.


You could even do this 2 arms at the same time by either holding onto the band with 2 hands or – an option I like even better – looping a hand towel or dish towel through the band and doing 2 arm banded overhead extensions.


Get creative and embrace the high quality training you can conduct with minimal equipment. I find this can also be advantageous by allowing you to train outside without relying on a gym or lugging out lots of equipment. Training outside is a special experience... in my experience, at least.


It's also just a good challenge for the brain.


Regardless of your equipment – use what you've got for maximum gains!
