Why I Like AMRAP Workouts

AMRAP stands for, "As Many Rounds as Possible."


Sometimes people are puzzled when I prescribe, or even describe, AMRAP workouts. But I like AMRAP based workouts a lot.


Why?


Because AMRAP workouts allow me to think less and do more.


Sometimes, we just need to turn off the brain and train. 


In fact, that's probably what we need most of the time. 


People get bogged down about how many sets to do, what exercises to do, how many exercises to do, etc. 


With AMRAP work, you pick 1-3 exercises, set a timer, and just shut off the think-tank and knock out sets until the timer goes off. This allows us to use auto-regulation and train with the natural ebbs and flows of life, without trying to force things one way or another. It also allows us to enter a state of "flow" within our workout, which is really nice.


Over time, do more reps and more sets within a given time frame. Then, once you're getting 10+ reps for 3+ sets with a given weight, increase the weight.


This is a really refreshing way to train. It feels natural. Wholesome, even. 


It's also a great way to train if you're limited on time or limited by equipment.

The first program is an AMRAP of 3 exercises per session. That's it. 


The second program uses an AMRAP for the first 2 exercises followed by 2-3 sets of isolation exercises at the end.
